A repertoire shaped across centuries

The classical guitar has a repertoire that reaches far beyond the period in which the modern instrument emerged. Through transcriptions, arrangements and new compositions, music from across four centuries has found a place on the guitar — from the Baroque and Classical eras to the music of the 20th and 21st centuries.

Alexandra’s performances bring together works written for the guitar alongside her own arrangements and compositions, exploring the many colours and possibilities of the instrument. From Villa-Lobos and Ponce to Richard Rodney Bennett and contemporary music, each programme reflects her interest in connecting the guitar’s established repertoire with music from beyond it.
