The Battle of Piraeus: Ode to Athena
Solo guitar
Inspired by the myth found in Homer's Odyssey, in which Poseidon and Athena compete for the patronage of Athens — Piraeus being the beautiful port and a region of Greater Athens. Having recently acquired a guitar from Athens, its unique sound and cultural significance greatly influenced the composition.
